Discovering Books Over the Holidays

 Hi everyone,

The holidays have begun and I thought of a list of things to do during the holiday. One of them is reading more novels. I always liked reading novels and short stories as much as I enjoy writing. I don't read inspirational books although I should start. Anyway, I am on my fourth novel now and I want to review them in this post. So, here are the novels:

1. STAY WITH ME BY AYOBAMI ADEBAYO

This was the first book I read this holiday. This story is about Yejide and her husband, Akin.
Their marriage was unlucky as they struggled to conceive a child. Akin's family stepped in as they blamed Yejide for her childlessness presenting a second wife for Akin. Yejide on the other hand, tried everything a faithful wife could do to get pregnant but all her efforts yielded zero results. Akin loved Yejide but he had to marry Funmi, the second wife. This made Yejide more desperate to get pregnant so she consulted a prophet, Prophet Josiah on a mountain. All she had to do was hold a goat as she would hold a baby and dance in a circle surrounded by Prophet Josiah so she did. Yejide came down from the mountain with the hope that she was pregnant. Well, she had the signs including a swollen belly but the medical reports said otherwise. In order to stop all the madness, Akin sort for a heartbreaking solution and this solution came with serious consequences.

It was an interesting read, the plot twist was crazy. I recommend this book.

2. TOMORROW I BECOME A WOMAN BY AIWANOSE ODAFEN

This book was heart-wrenching. This story is about Obianuju who had a terrible marriage, a controlling and scary husband who treated her more like a slave, a punching bag. But the real villain for me was her mother who would not have approved of the man she loved because they were not the same tribe and always faulted her for her husband's violence towards her.

I loved the book, I only wished we could get a glimpse of her happily ever after.

3. MEMORY MAN BY DAVID BALDACCI

First of all, the author is brilliant. The story is about Amos Decker, an ex-police officer and former detective who came back from work one day and found his family dead with no witnesses. It didn't stop there because this murderer wanted Amos Decker, the man who never forgets but to get Amos Decker the person had to attack everything connected to him. According to the murderer, Amos dissed him once but Amos, a person with hyperthymesia could not remember dissing anyone bad enough to cause so much harm. Amos and his former colleague and partner, Mary worked on this almost impossible case but it felt like the murder was always a step ahead of them.

I highly recommend this one. It's a 10/10 read.

4. THE SWEETEST REMEDY BY JANE IGHARO

A friend recommended this. This is my current read and so far, I'm loving it.  The story is about Hannah, a biracial woman who only met her Nigerian father once and only knew her mother, with the news of her father's death came a request that she could not ignore. Her father's last wish was to reveal Hannah to his family in Nigeria. During her first trip to Nigeria, she soon discovered her father was richer than she had imagined and that her new family wasn't exactly happy to have her around but they couldn't disregard his wish because there would be consequences.

I'm still reading but it's an interesting story. I'm enjoying it.

For now, this is it but the number will increase. I'm learning new writing styles and applying them to my pieces too.

Bye. See you next time.
