STORY. I DON'T NEED YOUR GOD. FINAL PART.

 CHRISTIANA’S POV

“Daniel, Me? Why?” I asked. I didn’t know what to say or do. “What's so wrong with you? I don’t want to marry anyone that is not you.” He replied “Daniel but…” He cut in “Christy, do you love me?” “I don’t know but I know I want to be selfish with you” He smiled as I continued “I don’t want you to treat anyone the same way you treat me and I don’t want you to leave me” He had parked the car at the side of the road “I want to be selfish with you too. The day you slept with that guy in the club, you broke my heart and I asked God why he wanted me to suffer like that. It hurt more than physical pain” he held my hands and kept his eyes on them as I looked at me with intense admiration. “I’m sorry I did that” I said in a low voice “Daniel, I’m scared what if…” He was now looking at me, that gaze. “My lord curse the day I raise a finger to beat you, let that day be the worst day of my life” This man named Daniel Gbenga was everything and that is what scared me, he did everything right and deserved everything good. “What if your parents don’t accept me? Daniel, you deserve so much more than what I can give.” I said with a shaky voice. “Christiana, God accepted you, that’s enough. I deserve what you will give. Think about it first” He said “I will marry you, Daniel but I have to contribute to the wedding financially.”

I had to just say it. “That’s fine. We can start up a business for you or I can pay and if you want to go to business school and get your own business after so you will pay me, it’s okay.” He pulled out a box with a ring in it, opened it and brought out an expensive gold ring with diamonds on it. He slipped it on the fourth finger of my left hand. I couldn’t believe I was marrying this flawless man next to me. I thanked God for sending him to me, he picked the best for me and I didn’t even deserve the best.

We got home feeling fulfilled and tired too. We grabbed dinner at a restaurant and Daniel spent half the time staring at me and making me blush. We agreed to know each other more, to learn and relearn daily. We would go on dates together, find out each other’s favorite things, and go for counseling in church. We planned to meet his parents and when the day came, I was extremely nervous but at the end of the day, I felt loved by his family and his mother made sure I was well taken care of. They didn’t ask uncomfortable questions and when I couldn’t answer, Daniel answered for me.

Daniel and I spent six months getting to know and love each other. Now that we knew what we were to each other, we stopped staying together to avoid temptations that could lead to some things we would regret. I stayed at Miss Kola’s house. We were preparing for the wedding that was to take place by the weekend and today was Tuesday. By Saturday, I would be known as Mrs. Gbenga, the thought alone gave me butterflies. My wedding gown was a simple long-sleeved lace gown; it was simple but elegant and showed a bit of my curves. Everything was getting set perfectly for my big day and as the days went by, the excitement kept growing.

The day had come. As my hair, makeup and every other thing was getting done I fought back tears as I thought of the young girl who ran away to find the love she couldn’t get at home, that girl would be so happy to see how Daniel Gbenga loved her like no other. My father held my hand with pride in his eyes as he rolled the wheels of his wheelchair down the aisle while I walked. I and my dad had become quite close and I had confessed that I was the reason he lost his legs, he forgave me. As I walked down the aisle I saw so many people in church. The women fellowship, the youth and the rest of the church, Miss Kola, and some of Daniel’s colleagues. Daniel looked ravishing and the expression on his face when he saw me was one I would never forget, his eyes showed love and his face had a broad smile placed on it. The pastor started speaking as the ceremony commenced. He read a Bible passage and highlighted the beauty of marriage. Soon, we exchanged our vows.

“Do you, Christiana Segun, take Daniel Gbenga to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold. For better, for worse, in sickness and health, till death do you part?” The pastor said. “I do”. The same was asked to Daniel and he replied “I do”. “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you, husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride” Daniel kissed me with so much passion and hunger like he waited for a long time for it. I was a married woman now, it looked like a dream but it wasn’t. I married Daniel Gbenga, the man of my dreams. I was now Mrs. Gbenga and I definitely loved how it sounded.

After our wedding and honeymoon, we returned home and I got more serious with the church, I even joined the choir. The place I dreaded the most now became my place of shelter. “Thank you, Lord, for the second chance you gave me. Thank you” I said this after looking at how beautiful my life turned out to be.
